Show ABANDON HOPE OF RECOVERING PLANS WASHINGTON, July 10. Officials of the naval department virtually have abandoned hope of recovering; the electric elec-tric wiring plans of the dreadnaught Pennsylvania which were stolen from the navy department last Marsh. Secret agents of the government have run down cine after clue without avail. Secretary Daniels now is of the opinion that the plans never will be found nor the enlpnt brought to justice. The strange disappearance of the plans caused a sensation in naval circles. cir-cles. The loss was not made known officially for nearly a month, when Mr. Daniels issued a formal statement and declared that the matter had been placed in the hands of the department of justice. There was much speculation as to the identity .of the persons who took the plans and his reason for so doing. It has been intimated that an agent for some foreign naval power made off with the drawings. Another theory is that some peraoa passing through the department during the hours that it is open to the public took them and when a hue and cry was raised feared to return them. |
