Show SIERRA SNOWFALL I HEAVIEST SINCE 1916 SAX FRANCISCO. Feb. S Acrord-' Acrord-' Ing to the cllmatoloKlcal report of the 1 United States wrather bureau, the fall of snow In the Sierra of this state waa unusually heavy and at the close of December there was more snow on the ground than on any similar date since 116. There have been several hfavy snowstorms since January I. The snow, the report says, fell steadily throughout December and as the temperature tem-perature remained most of the time below zero, there was IltUe runoff from meltinir. The greatest snowfall for the month was 125 inches at Tamarack, Tama-rack, Alpine county, alutude 8000 feet. The greatest amount of unmelted snow on the ground at the close of the month was inches at Twin Iakes. Alpine county, altitude 7S70 feet. At the summit there were 7 inches on the ground last month; in 107 there were 7 Inches and in 77 inches at the same point. The higher lewis of the coast 'rang were snow covered on several occasions occa-sions during December and moderately moderate-ly heavy snow fell in the northern portion. Little snow fell In the mountains moun-tains of southern California. |
