Show Chain Gang Taken From Street Job Owing to protests from various cltixens. the "chain gang" of city jal I prisoners has been removed j rrom repair work on the city streets, according to a statement by Street Commissioner T. T. Burton at a meeting of the city commission today. "lYotestants claimed" that working work-ing prisoners was unfair to unemployed unem-ployed men of the city," Commls- j sloner Burton said. "We have taken the gang from street work and, as a consequence, have been forced to lay off seven teamsters and fourteen shoveiers.
