Show OGDEN MAYOR ORDERS AUDIT auditor's report that a 829.8 shortage short-age existed In the accounts of the county auditor. County Attorney John A. Hendricks Thursday declared de-clared that no complaint against William E. Ballantyne, former deputy dep-uty county auditor, would be Issued unless some person presented "evi- denc that can be sustained In court" ' "A complaint will be issued against Mr. Ballantyne only when and if some persons present this office with sufficient evidence to sustain the charges in court," he stated to The Telegram. - In th wake of disclosure of the alleged county shortage, Mayor Herman W. Leland Shreeve. accountant who reported on status of the county books, be engaged at $18 a day. for not more than four days, to audit th polic W I Th mayor recommended that the police books be scrutinised "as they pertain to the present system of procedure pro-cedure in handling fine and forfeitures, for-feitures, collecting and depositing of moneys." County Clerk Lawrence M. Matin said he received a letter Thursday from the bonding firm, th St. Paul Indemnity company, indicating that if Mr. Malin would file a claim with the company to cover the purported shortage th firm would demand a complaint be Issued. Mr. Malln said he did not know what action would be taken, as the county commissioners commis-sioners hav mad no demand on him, having referred th matter to the county attorney. Th city commission adopted Mayor Peery's resolution that Mr. Shreeve audit th police department depart-ment books. Th commission also adopted the mayor's resolution that stop sign violators be pardoned if they can prov they ar first offenders. |
