Official Warns Of Japanese Threat Danger to Alaska Foreseen; Secret Pact by Tokio, Rome, Berlin Hinted WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 (INS) The American government believes be-lieves Italy, Germany and Japan have entered into a secret treaty, Louis Johnson, assistant aecretarv of war. revealed todav. He admitted the war department is "deeply concerned" about tha reported re-ported treaty and emphatically atated "unless this country advances its defenses wt will have to continue to take insults from Japan." Johnson stated he personally believes be-lieves Japan would like to get control con-trol of the Dutch East Indies because be-cause of their vast stores of oil. "Following that," he continued, "they will turn to Alaska for gold. I believe that Alaska is almost completely com-pletely undefended against foreign invasion." r Johnson said the proposed Ludlow Lud-low constitutional amendment to require re-quire a national referendum of the people before congress could declare War "would so weaken this country in the eyes of foreign powers that we would be further thrown open to insults." |
