Show Grant Loses Worries, Finds Fame By BL'KDETTC JAY HOLLYWOOD (INS) Because he quit worrying three years ago, Cary Grant doesn't have a worry in the world now. During those three years he has won recognition, lama and a modest mod-est fortune. "It took me seven years to discover dis-cover that Hollywood wants no part of worry," Grant explained. "I thought I had to be producer, director, property man and research re-search expert as well as trying to sandwich In a bit of acting. Now I hope to get my characterization across." Grant hasn't turned down a single sin-gle role since he stopped worrying about other people's work. He doesn't care whether he's hero or heavy. "I found out," he grinned, "that producers and directors are Just as snxlous to make successful pictures pic-tures as I am. So now I let them worry." An actor who tries anything but acting - Is "Borrowing; " trouble," In Grant's opinion. "Few actors are competent to choose their own roles," he declared. de-clared. "Everyone laughs at the ham who wants to play Hamlet. In a lesser degsee, screen stars who essay roles they know nothing about are Just as ridiculous." Grant admits he quit worrying after The Awful Truth" and "Topper" "Top-per" proved him his own worst critic. He didn't want to play either of the roles which skyrocketed skyrock-eted him to stardom. Now he's the man who does what he's asked to do. |
