Granite Defenses' Baffle Wesfs Late Drive for 6-0 Victory Granite high school's erratic Farmers settled down for four whole quartera Friday and shook the props from under a potent West aggregation to rack up a a-o Big Eight victory. It was the final game of tha season for both teams. The Farmers, Intent on proving their early-season rating was no fluke, stuck tenaciously on defense Friday and bottled up the only scoring opportunity the Panthers had In the fourth quarter. It consisted con-sisted of holding firm on the five-yard five-yard stripe. Meantime, the West gladiators couldn't do too much about the accurate tossing arm of little Gene Tedeaco as he splattered aerials all over the Panther gridiron and finally hit Bay 8mith good for 13 yards and, mora specifically, a touchdown. The touchdown was set up when a Panther fumble was recovered m midfield by Granite. The oeriea of plays were almost all through the air lanes and finally Tedesco hit his target which was sufficient for a touchdown. Throughout tha march the Granite Gran-ite tosser had been thrtming passes to Monty Howard and Gene Peck. Granite dug In to protect its lead In tha waning minutes of tha final period. West finally got its offensive rolling In those last few minutes and tore through tha vaunted Granite Una with con-ststent con-ststent gains. However, the Farmer forwards were not to be denied and held the West attack at last. The Panthers ran out of gaa on the five-yard line to end their scoring scor-ing threat for the day. Granite ended the season with a record of three victories, two defeats de-feats and one tie. The West high eleven finished the regular Big Eight season with two wins, three losses and a tie, also. . |
