Show RATION NEWS August 4 is the last day for applying for 1945 canning sugar, according to officials of the war price and rationing board. The amount of sugar allocated to Utah housewives up to that date will be balanced against the canning sugar quota, and the remainder re-mainder will he divided among those applicants whose allotments allot-ments were curtailed after June 15. No second application is necessary nec-essary since the limited applications appli-cations were segregated from those which received their full allotments as determined by the board. Householders and institutional users of meat in Utah will be able to acquire a considerably greater amount of red point foods as a result of a 21 per cent reduction re-duction in average point values which was effective July 29. Householders are allotted .55 of a red point per person per meal, compared to the restaurant allotment allot-ment of 64 to .70 of a red point per person per meal. Before the July 1 reduction in restaurant allotments the institutional user had an advantage of 40 to 60 per cent over the individual house holder. The advantage of from 16 to 27 per cent over the' householder, house-holder, which restaurants now have, should remain approximately approxi-mately unchanged by the reduction reduc-tion in point value of beef, lamb and veal, OPA officials said. Five new red and blue stamps became valid August 1 and will be worth 10 points each, making a total of 50 red points for the purchase of rationed meats, cheese, butter, shortening and salad oils, and 50 blue points for the purchase of rationed processed proces-sed foods. The new stamps, which are good through November 30 are: Red, Fl, Gl, HI, Jl, and Kl; blue, PI, Ql, Rl, SI, and Tl. Stamps retired July 31 are red stamps K2 through P2 and blue stamps T2 through X2.
