Show I SAY IT !" AGAIN By Herb Frio LirU 1 Now Stt Here Once upon a time there was a grown woman named Blaaeke Humpherys who bought herself a beautiful new aqua colored suit And then, a few days later, she bought a beautiful new aqua colored col-ored dress. And then, a few days later, she gave the dress to her sister. Her explanation? She didn't want te appear toe "aqraa-ed." (Thanks, W. G.) School's Oat , Currently Salt Lake's 30,000 school kids are "on the town," having themselves a time and making the most of a vacation period. And Joining them are millions of similar bright eyes aU ever America, i Ad perhaps. If ens were to look hard and long enough, eae might find In that group a certain cer-tain few who'd admit that doggone dog-gone It they miss their school and will be happy whea it starts again. i But It's unlikely, no matter how hard you look, that you'd find many school'ers as enthusiastic as the Navajo Indian boy who attended attend-ed Indian school at Bluff, southeastern south-eastern Utah community, last winter. Dr. E. Allen Batemaav wheel In the state education offices, told about this lad recently on ' bis return from the wasteland area. This boy, a lithe 12-year-old, lives across the San Juan river and down a few miles into the Indian reservation. And every day last winter lie and his 8-year-old ' brother would mount the family's spavined old horse and ride to the river's edge, where they'd hang on while, the horse swam the river. Now the ride Itself wasn't too tough . . . but that swrnt across the ley San Juan river was no Joy. Yet these two lads didn't miss a class until one particularly particu-larly stormy day whea only the 12-year-old showed up. . He was soaked and his horse wss not in evidence, and this unusual un-usual state of affairs led to questions ques-tions from hla teacher and the lad then explained thusly: -", His family had needed the horse that particular day, so he and his brother had walked to the river's edge. There they found the river extremely rough, so hi the Interests of safety he sent his brother home and then he swam the roily river and arrived ar-rived at the adobe schoolhouse on time. - (Thanks, AL) That's Easy Jorgie Jorgensen and our favorite favor-ite elevator gal plus hunnerts (T) of others caUed to advise that they (and hint that we) could probably qualify for this job, recently listed under "Men Wanted": "CREDIT MANAGER for furniture fur-niture store. MSJe or female. Good salary. Permanent position posi-tion with opportunity for advancement ad-vancement Some Inexperience necessary." How Free? Although considerably Irritated Irritat-ed at the time, Carl Marquart can't help but appreciate the quick wit of the fella who beat him te a parking spot In downtown down-town Salt Lake the other day. Mrs. M was driving st the time and was all set to pull Into a spot when the other driver, a little quicker on the accelerator, zipped in ahead of her. And Mr. Mar-quart Mar-quart forthwith leaned out his window and gave the usurper a slight dressing down. And then the other guy leaned ut bis window, smiled sweetly, and asked: "And how do YOU like America?' (Thanks, Nevtn W.) |
