Show 'The Messiah' Thrills S.L A turn-away crowd which filled the tabernacle on Temple Square 30 minutes before atarting time and overflowed into the near-by Assembly hall to hear the performance per-formance via loud speakers, hailed the 31st annual rendition of Handera Han-dera "The Messiah" Sunday afternoon after-noon by the Salt Lake Oratorio society as one of the most outstanding out-standing in recent yesrs. Dr. Otto Klemperer conducted the concert by the 4 50-voice non-sectsrisn non-sectsrisn chorus trained by Miss Lisle Bradford, and the 40-plece orchestra of local 'musicians trsined by Prof. Arthur Freber, who was concertmsster during the performance, A star-studded cut Of soloists drew spprecistive response from the cspacity crowd, with apeclal praise for Harold H. Bennett, Salt Lake bssso, who sang "Why Do the Nations Rsge" and "Behold, I Tell You a Mystery." Notable performances were given by tenor Harold Haugh, soprsno Blythe Tsylor and contralto Marie Powers, Pow-ers, all outstanding vocalists from metropolitan areas. |
