Visits Her Old Home. , Mrs. E. D. Waterman, "134 West Sixth South street returned home yesterday from a four months' visit to her old home in Ann Arbor. Mich. Mr. Waterman stopped off for a visit with friends in Iowa, and will arrive here in a few days. Romance of the Police. William Armstrong, who holds down, the driver's seat on the police patrol wagon, could keep the secret no longer, and yesterday yes-terday told his friends that he has a wife. He was married to Miss Bena Holder of Logan at St. Anthony, Ida., on New Year's eve. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong will make their home here. Blind Han's Accident. Blind and unable to see his way, Vlll Henderson, a wrll-known character who sells papers on the streets, yesterday afternoon af-ternoon missed his footing and fell down a flight of stone steps leading to the basement base-ment of the building in which he is located, lo-cated, the Utah National bank. He suffered suf-fered several bad cuts. Suit for Damages. A petition asking for the appointment of John W. Pike as guardian c-f William 'Sutherland. 20 years old. was filed for probate yesterday. The petition Is for the purpose of commencing an action " for damages on account of injuries sustained. Mr. Pike is court stenographer in Judge Hall's court where the petition will be heard. Decline in Sugar Prices. Local dealers were yesterday notified by J. W. Heywood, the local representative of the Western Sugar Refining company, that all grades of refined sugar had declined de-clined 30 cents a bag. Cane sugar has been $4.80 and beet sugar $4.70. with 75 cents freight to Salt Lake. The decline is probably the result of unsettled conditions in the sugar market Valuable Property Sold. A piece of property on Third South street, between Main and West Temple, wss sold yesterday by Alfred Crlbbln and Marie A. Crlbbln of Denver to the Western West-ern Investment and Trust company. The property has a frontage of 2V, rods on Third South and a depth of 120 feet, and the figure paid Is about $610 a foot, the purchase price being $25,000. Press Club's Entertainment Preparations are being made by the members of the Press club to entertain a number of friends at a house warming and banquet tomorrow evening. The wanning will be held at the new rooms of the club from 8 until 10 o'clock, when a banquet will be served at the Commercial club. The members of the Legislature and Commercial club, besides a number of private citizens prominent in 8a li Lake, nave been invited. State Bar Association Meets. A general invitation is being extended by members of the State Bar association of Utah to the Judges of the courts and members of the bar to attend the annual meeting of the association in the Federal courtroom next Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Judge C. 8. Varlan will deliver an address as president of the association, M. M. Warner of Provo will peak on "Precedent vs. Justice," and H. S. Tanner of this city on "Comity." Following the addresses the annual election of officers will be held. |
