Show TRADING WAS LIGHTER WITHLO The stock transactions on the mining: exchange this morning- aggregated $18,718, as compared with 837,312 for yesterday. The market value of most stocks was also far below yesterday's quotations. Daly West dropped below 840 on the regular call, but recovered the position on the curb,, with a sale of 150 shares. Daly-Judge,' which reached $11.75 at one time yesterday, recorded sales below $11.J5 today, closing with $11.20 bid and $11.45 asked. The sales were 120 shares at I1L20 and 200 shares at $11.15, both made on the open board. Thompson parted with about 2000 shares, opening at 38 cents and selling down to 36 cents. Con. Mercur was also unusually active, recording a sale of 2000 shares. On the regular call the price ranged from $1.59 to $1.69, but on the curb it went to $1.58. Lower Mammothf made a single sale of 600 shares at 58He, buyer thirty days, and Sacramento released 1500 shares at 27c and 1000 at 27V4c Mammoth closed on $1.42 bid and $1.60 asked, with no sales. The buyers and sellers were also unable to come together on Grand Central, that stock starting with $5.15 bid and $5.35 asked. CRIPPLE CREEK MINERS MAY CAUSE TROUBLE. CRIPPLE CREEK. Colo.. March 17. A committee of the Western Federation of Miners this morning notified the mine owners and shippers of the Cripple Creek district who are sending ore to the mills of the United States Reduction Reduc-tion and Refining company, which have been declared "unfair," that the miners on their properties will be called out at 4 o'clock this afternoon unless such shipments cease. t The mines affected are Stratton s" Independence, In-dependence, employing 500 men; the Vindicator, 200. men; the Mary McKln-ney, McKln-ney, 125 men; tAe Gold King, 75 men; the AJax. 200 men; the Strong, 63; the Granite. Gran-ite. 75; the Elkton, 60; the El Paso. 125; the Hull City. 140, making a total of 1563 men. four-fifths of whom are members of the Miners unions. LOCAL MECHANICS HAVE NEW TRACTION ENGINE FINISHED. Messrs. Kester and Dunschie. the local lo-cal mechanics who have invented a new traction engine, will have their model machine completed today and the transportation committee of the Deep Creek association will be invited to see It tested within the next few days. The model has a capacity of carrying half a ton, and If it proves to be what the Inventors claim for It, the Deep Creek committee will recommend It for use in that district. The engine runs on a huge steel belt, which prevents its sinking sink-ing in soft ground. MANAGER M'INTYRE RETURNS FROM THE MAMMOTH. Manager Samuel Mclntyre of the Mammoth Mining company arrived from that property this morning, highly high-ly elated over the decision in the Federal Fed-eral court yesterday, which granted his company a temporary injunction against the Grand Central. Mr. Mclntyre Mcln-tyre views the decision as an important victory for the Mammoth, and has great confidence that the final case will also ba in his favor. - PLAN BIG BLAS.T FURNACE. SANTA BARBARA, Cal.. March 17. Plans are under way to establish a big blast furnace on-the coast, either In the extrene northern part of Santa Barbara county or at Port Harford. San Luis Obispo Obis-po county, by a Mexican syndicate owning and operating iron mines near Mazatlan, Mexico. It Is understood that the company com-pany purposes establishing a steamship line between Mazatlan and the furnace plants" |
