Show MURDOCH TOLEAVE Section Director Lester H. Murdoch of the local weather bureau station has received notice-from the weather bureau bu-reau headquarters at Washington of 'his transfer to the position of section director for the State of Texas, with headquarters at Galveston. The transfer Is In every way satisfactory satisfac-tory to Mr. Murdoch, as It la considered by him to be a promotion to a much more Important and responsible position. posi-tion. - In his new station Mr. Murdoch will have charge of the local weather bureaus bu-reaus for the entire State of Texas. There are ten paid stations and over 100 volunteer observers, all of whom will report to him dally. The station to which Mr. Murdoch has been transferred has a corps of five men who will be his assistants. Mr. Murdoch expects to leave Salt Lake on March 16th and will take up his new duties at once. Mr. Murdoch came to Salt Lake In January, 1899, from Washington, where he had been located In the weather bureau's bu-reau's central office as a member of the chief clerk's force. When he assumed charge of this branch of the weather bureau he had two assistants, and but few Instruments. Instru-ments. Under his management the force has been increased to three assistants and all the latest meterologtcal Instruments have been Installed. When he assumed control of the station six or eight telegraphic tele-graphic reports were received dally from different parts of the State and less than twenty bulletins were distributed distri-buted dally. Now forty reports are received re-ceived daily and over 250 bulletins are distributed. Mr. Murdoch will be succeeded by Dr. Robert J. Hyatt, who now has charge of the St. Louis observatory. |
