Show COLORADO GOVERNOR AT SCENE OF THE STRIKE : COLORADO SPRINGS. March 12.-Gov. Peabody arrived in Colorado Springs yesterday yes-terday afternoon, in company with President Moyer of the Western Federation Federa-tion of Miners, and was driven at once to Colorado City, where he called on Mayor Taulkner. The Mayor deprecated the necessity ne-cessity for calling out the troops and explained ex-plained the strike situation. . Marshal Blrdsall criticised CoL James H. Brown for placing soldiers as pickets around the strike headauarters, and CoL Brown gave a statement, which was substantiated sub-stantiated by the Governor, who stated that he had been notified by Secretary Hayward of tho federation that the pickets pick-ets would be re-established peaceably. If powlble; by force, if necessary, and that if any Injury visited them he, the Governor, Gover-nor, would be held personally responsible. "Threats were being made and if the placing of soldiers as a meana of obtaining quiet was successful." said the Governor, "I cannot see that any harm was done." ' The Governor was received with full 4 honor at Camp Peabody,' and, with a " guard, visited the Tellurite and Portland 4 mills, going Into the works and interview- " ing the men. The employees of the Stand- ' ard mill presented him a petition In which it waa set forth that the men had no t grievance against the management and desired to be. protected from the strikers. 4 The men he Interviewed laid the cause of . the strike on agitators who had come to . Colorado City from outside points to unionize the State in the interests of the , Western Federation of Miners. .
