Show POLITICAL SERMONS Two Ministers Give Advice, Ad-vice, to Congregations on Purity in Politics. "The Separation of Churchy and State" was the topic of the sermon of the Very Rev. Dean Eddy in his sermon on political questions at St. Mark's cathedral ca-thedral Sunday night. He asked if the men who have asked for office in Utah on the various tickets are worthy of the confidence of the people. Do they love the people? Are they men of ability? Do they fear God? If they are. almost any political platform will be safe for them. The public interests of the people may pafely be left In their hands. lie pleaded that unless men have clean record? rec-ord? that they be not elected to office. "Religious, Social and .Political Freedom" Free-dom" was the subject of the nermon delivered de-livered at the First Unitarian church Sunday by the Rev. W. H. Fish, Jr. He made a ptrong plea for independence. indepen-dence. He said that machine politics has been so skilfully devired that it is hard for a politician to keep out of its- grasp. Those who do not believe in machine politics are the non-conformistf in the political life. They are the Independents. Some of our greatest States are rapidly drifting toward a monarchical form of government beca.upe of machine and boss rule politics. He Epoke. eloquently against boss rule, and said that in many tai-'es people could only choose between two masters. Civil service reform, he said, would correct the evils that are to be found in the political scheme of today. |
