Peabody roads a distinct gain Monday Mon-day afternoon When the Republican caucus cau-cus selected -W. H. Dickson of this city as Speaker of the next bouse of the Colorado Colo-rado Legislature. Although Mr. Dlckon has been a resident of this State for three years he has not been active In the inter-est inter-est of any Republican faction,- but his candidacy was pushed by the friends of Gov. Peabodr and his selection by the caucus Is -.regarded with much complacency compla-cency by the Peabody people. Frank W. Frewen of Teller county was the candidate of the Wolcott faction and he made a strong fight for several hours. Matters were finally adjusted , harmoniously, harmoni-ously, everybody hi the caucus joining In naming Dickson for Speaker and he was nominated by acclamation. Chairman D. B. Falrley of the. Republican Repub-lican 8tate Central committee declared this afternoon that it was an error for anybody to claim that the State constitution consti-tution required the Inauguration of a new Governor on the first Tuesday after the first Wednesday of the Legislative session. "The State constitution expressly provides." pro-vides." said Chairman Falrley. "that the Governor shall hold over until his successor suc-cessor has duly qualified. There Is no getting around that, and Gov. Peabody will hold his seat until his successor has qualified properly." - |
