The children will remain with their father for a time, and if their life is happy with him they will remain under his care and protection. protec-tion. Many offers of good homes for either or both of the children were made by readers of The Telegram - who were touched by their sad condition. There were others received, offers of help and offers of temporary homes until un-til permanent homes could be secured for them. - A day or two ago Mrs. Will Poaste. in whose care the children had been since the fatal illness of the mother began, received a call from a well dressed man, who asked that he might tee the children. One of the girls was ill, as the result re-sult of her mother's death,' but she received re-ceived the man. He said that he wanted want-ed to give her a little Christmas present. pres-ent. The girl thanked him,- and said that she would like to know who the man was, as she had never seen him before. In responpe to her question he handed hand-ed the girl a $10 bill and told her that he wanted to make her Christmas a little lit-tle less sad.. . , The girl repeated her question as to whom the -visitor was, but his eyes filled with- tears, his voice broke, and as he buried his face in his handkerchief handker-chief he said that it did not matter who he was, he did not want them to thank him for so little a thing. All that he wanted, he said, was to help them Just a little, if possible. He then left the house without giving giv-ing the children or their guardian an opportunity to thank him or question him further. |
