Show Thi Young ManV Cbanct. v Experiments are being made with a new electric locomotive on the New York Central railroad. In a race between the electric locomotive, to which were attached eisht coaches and a' limited train recently, ... the steam locomotive was badly beaten. If the locomotive is a success, another great field is opened up for electricity. We wonder that more young men do not become electricians. The profession should appeal to' the fancv nf n vnrmfr man. for it is mvsterious and strange beyond anything else in nature or science. No one knows what electricity is. IT IS A MIGHTY FORCE THAT FOR ALL WE KNOW MAY BE THE LIFE PRINCIPLE ITSELF. WE ARE JUST j BEGINNING TO GAIN A SLIGHT IDEA OF ITS WONDERFUL POWER. WE HAVE DONE A FEW THINGS WITH IT, BUT WE HAVE HARDLY HARD-LY MADE A BEGINNING. , When we see young men trying to make a living in mediocre or law professions greatly overcrowded, overcrowd-ed, we pity them. Ttfany are bound to fail and others oth-ers will achieve a success so mediotfce that it can scarcely be called success. They could learn something some-thing about electricity at far less expense, and they would have opportunities for tremendous success. The great things of the world are going, to be done with electricity. What has been done is scarcely anything. Fifty years from now the discoveries of Edison will seem clumsv and amateurish. There 13 the chance, young man. Become an electrical engineer, study, work, experiment. You are-sure-of a good livelihood, AND YOU MAY GAIN FAME AND WEALTH ANY DAY BY MA-OCING MA-OCING SOME DISCOVERY. THE DISCOVERIES ARE THERE TO BE MADE. SOMEBODY IS GOING GO-ING TO MAKE THEM. WHY NOT YOU? In this connection we want to say a word for manual training in the public schools. It is an excellent ex-cellent thing. It teaches young men something about such things as electricity and gives them a - glimpse of the fascinations of such pursuits. IT GIVES THEM A CHANCE TO BECOME USEFUL AND SUCCESSFUL IN ELECTRICITY OR SOME OTHER BRANCH OF SCIENCE OR MECHANICS, MECHAN-ICS, which is far better than being a struggling doctor or lawyer. THERE ARE ALL, TOO FEW MEN TO DO THE REAL WORK OF THE WORLD TODAY. 'Bright business men are always in demand, and , brightscieotists, engineers, electricians are' seldom lacking in employment or contracts. There are too many lawyers and doctors. ARE THE YOUNG MEN OF TODAY BRIGHT ENOUGH" TO SEE THE POINT? HAVE THEY EVER HEARD OF THE LINE OF LEAST RESISTANCE? RE-SISTANCE? . . - |
