Show CORPSE ROSE UP Supposedly Dead Man Startles Coroner While r Taking Evidence. i ia raa . OBIAHA, Nov. 8. In the morgue In -this city a man, apparently dead, suddenly threw off the sheet with which he was covered and, with a groan loud enough to be heard half a block away, ' eat bolt upright on the slab on which he had been laid out, looked into the faces of the Coroner's Jury, which had been Impaneled to Inquire Into the cause of hla death, and asked what was going on. A stranger who, from papers on his person, was believed to be James Black, a bricklayer from Cedar Rapids and Ot--tumwa, la., was found unconscious in "the street by Thomas Grier, a night -watchman for the Hoaglund Lumber company. Beside him lay a half-empty bottle of ether.. r The unconscious man was .taken to - Clarkson hospital and there at 1 o'clock Ihe apparently expired. Coroner Bralley m removed the body to the morgue and impaneled the Jury. While the Jury was conducting its investigation into the cause of death .-Black rose as from the dead and struck "horror into the hearts of the Coroner , .and his Jury. A -physician was immediately imme-diately summoned. Ha applied restoratives, restora-tives, but Black soon fell Into uncon- sclousness again and died In a few Zhours. . , - - 1 |
