Chicago manufacturers manu-facturers who received the letter of the Zion Co-operative Mercantile Institution Institu-tion urging them to request their Senators Sen-ators to 'save Apostle Smoot are indignant. indig-nant. Said a local manufacturer today: "If Joseph Smith and the rest of his tribe are laboring under the Impression that they can induce me to give my stamp of approval to polygamy simply because they patronise me in a business way, they are acting under a delusion." Another manufacturer said:. "Yes, I received one of those circular letters, but you can bet your last dollar that I am not bothering my head about going to the front for this man Smoot. I don't like the sound of that name." "I am amazed," said a North Side furniture fur-niture dealer, "at the brazen attempt to Influence reputable men to aid Smoot. Our firm of course, will not do it." Many manufacturers say they will lose the' Mormon business before they will bow to the will of the church. |
