Show DtaJias With th Moros. A number of officers and soldiers have been killed recently in engagements with the Moros of the island of Jolo. That island is the only one of the archfpelago that is giving the Government any trouble now, and the reason is that the measures employed with the Moros have been too pacific. Some vigorous action will soon put a stop to their activity. The Moros are of a different type from any other of the natives.. They interpret kindness as cowardice coward-ice and, thinking they have awed the whites; begin offensive operations' when least expected to do so. No doubt, it will horrify the antis to suggest dealing with the Moros in the only way they can understand but it will have to be done. The Government has the Philippines pretty well under control. The task has been accomplished with less loss of life and in shorter time than anyone expected. In order to bring about the desired result harsh measures were necessary at times. They are now necessary in Jolo. The Moros can understand a few brisk charges and some rapid firing quite well, and once they do understand they will give no more trouble. ; s |
