Show HUMOR OP MOODY'S JOKE. To the Editor of The Telegram: I have been gTestly pained at the ob-tuseness ob-tuseness of the Herald in the matter of Secretary Moody's little Joke. It Is a difficult matter often to make a diagram dia-gram of a Joke in such fashion that one without a sense of humor must comprehend, but I will try to do that for the benefit of the solemn folk above referred to. The law says: "Name armored ships after States." The law has been compiled com-piled with as far as the following: Maine, Alabama, Illinois, "Wisconsin, Kentucky. Iowa. Indiana, Massachusetts, Massachu-setts, Oregon, New Tork. Texas. Nevada Ne-vada and Florida. The following ships, now building, have been assigned as-signed these names: Missouri. Ohio, Georgia. New Jersey, Nebraska, Virginia. Vir-ginia. Rhode Island. California. Pennsylvania. Penn-sylvania. West Virginia. Maryland, Colorado. South , Dakota. Louisiana. Tennessee, Delaware", Minnesota and Kansas. Two wooden ships are named after States, vis., Vermont and ,New Hampshire. Therefore, for the naming of the five new armored ships we have available only the following five names: North Carolina, South Carolina, North Dakota, Da-kota, Montana and Utah. I believe the point efi the Joke is now apparent HENRY LA MOTTE, U. S. N. |
