Show GRAND JURY SEEMS TO BE READY TO RETURN INDICTMENTS OR TO ADJOURN It is thought that the grand Jury will either return some indictments or ad-" Journ at an early date.- Its success in. securing sufficient evidence evi-dence to warrant the' returning of Indictments In-dictments on the charges of polygamy or the mismanagement of the county infirmary, in-firmary, it is thought, has ' not ' been great. There may-be still many missing links in the chain of evidence. A number of witnesses were subpoenaed subpoe-naed today. The Jury convened at 10:20 this morning. - . . , Ebenezer Fames, who resides at 47 Pear street, was the first witness called, and was detained about an hour. Until recently Mr. Fames conducted a butcher shop on Brigham street. He is no relation to Judge Tanner, but it is supposed by some that he testified In the polygamy case, as he is reported to have had some business transactions with the family of Judge Tanner in the way of supplying and delivering goods at his house. i , Miss Nettle Raleigh, who lives at 34S , Center street, was the next witness called. Her brother. William M. Raleigh, Ral-eigh, was also summoned and appeared. These two witnesses are two of the heirs to the estate of Bishop A. H. Raleigh, Ral-eigh, who has been dead about four years. Judge Tanner has charge of the affairs of the estate and It is rumored that nearly all the heirs have been dissatisfied dis-satisfied with the disposal of the property proper-ty as made by the father, and numerous suits have been instigated in the courts for an interpretation of their father s will. In all these cases the result has been unsatisfactory to some of the heirs, and all the suits have been fought by Judge Tanner In the interests of the estate. es-tate. It is rumored thafconslderable enmity exists between the Judge and these heirs, and it is thought that they may know something of the private life of Judge Tanner. Miss Alice F. Kenncr, who resides with the Fames family at 47 Pear street, also appeared before the Jury. The line of her testimony is- not known, but is thought to be similar to that of Mr. Farnee. Chairman James H. Anderson of the Board of County Commissioners and Sheriff C. Frank Emery were before the Jury yesterday afternoon. Their testimony testi-mony is supposed to have been In relation rela-tion to the county infirmary case. |
