Show WAY TO BEAT THE DEMOCRACY. One Democratic newspaper gleefully announces that Chairman .Sherman has acknowledged "that in the next House of Representatives the immense Republican Re-publican majority will be cut down somewhat." "We hope that will be true. If we were intensely partisan we would almost wish that the Republicans Republi-cans might lose the majority in the House, except that the House elected this year will have the handling hand-ling of the electoral vote in February, 1909. For the sake of the Republican party in 1908 we would almost wish that the House might be Democratic Dem-ocratic after the 4th of next March, because those in charge of the Democratic party have already given notice that if they should get the majority in the November election, they would use that majority, not to help carry out any reform government, but to throw every possible obstacle in the"way of the President. "We think that course if it could be pursued during dur-ing the winter of 1907 and the spring of 1908 would come nearer electing a Republican President that' year than any other thing that could happen; 1 |
