Show WYOMING JUDGE AS A COAL WITNESS DENVER, Sept. 27. The testimony of a number of witnesses before the Interstate In-terstate Commerce commission showed that the Union Pacific Coal company secured a large number of men to sign declaratory coal statements taking up coal land in Wyoming, and at the same time to sign relinquishments to this land. The pay for this service was $3 or $1 in each instance. Among the witnesses examined today to-day was Cyrus Beard, Justice of the Supreme court of Wvoming. On the recommendation of George L. Black, one of the officials of the Union Pacific, and with money advanced by ' Black, Judge Beard testified, he purchased pur-chased certain' coal land in Wyoming. Later he sold the land to D. O. Clark at an advance of (200 on the recommendation recom-mendation of Black. .Justice Beard denied that he knew that Clark was acting for the Union Pacific company. |
