JOBBERY MYSTERY MAY' ,: BE SOLVED IN ARREST OF COUPLE HERE TODAY ) CHICAGO, Sept. 27 -The arrest to-flay to-flay of Clara Adams, an actress, and Harry Morgan, at Salt Lake City, will . solve the mystery connected with the alleged theft of nearly . $10,000 from Anton Fritz, a butcher at Portland, Or., and of. an alleged plot to murder 'Morgan 'Mor-gan in a hotel in Chicago, according to local police officials who were notified of the arrest. Fritz was a native of western Pennsylvania, Penn-sylvania, and before lie started "out to see the world owned a butcher shop. He sold the shop for $10,000 and, it is claimed, placed the money, all in bills of Jarge denominations, in a wallet and started for the West. He had been in Portland several days, and was sightseeing sight-seeing when he met "the Adams woman. She told him she was a stranger in the city and was in need of money. Fritz claims he befriended the worn-an worn-an and secured her a place at a hotel. 1 ! i He says he also stayed at the' same hotel. The following morninz he reported re-ported to the police that he had been robbed of over $9000. In the meantime the woman has disappeared. dis-appeared. The description of the woman wom-an as given by Fritz was recognized by the police as that of one who was known under th$ name of the "Candy Kid." Harry Morgan, n Intimate fnend of the woman, had also disappeared. The police learned that Morgan and the woman had gone to Tacoma. From there the couple were tracked to Spokane, Spo-kane, thence to St. Paul and finally to Chicago. At each place it was learned that Morgan and the woman had been living in great luxury. The conspiracy to kill Morgan probably prob-ably would have been successful, according ac-cording to the police, but for the weakening weak-ening of one of the plotters, a negro, who went to Morgan and made a full confession. |
