Show WOMAN RUNS CAR - TO CATCH TRAIN Pushes Motorman From the Platform and TaKes Possession, Pos-session, Matting No Stops; Collides With Vehicles. . CHICAGO, July SI. Passengers on a southbound Halsted street car were panic-stricken yesterday when a woman pushed the motorman from the front platform plat-form and ran the car at high speed for nearly a mile. No stops were mads for passengers to get on or off and be car collided with coal wagons and other vehicles along the routs. Several women in the car, thinking think-ing that an Insane person wss at the lever, became hysterical and had to be held oy the male passengers to prevent them from leaping to the stereL The woman who caused the excitement wss Mrs. S. H. Chldester of Evergreen Park, fourteen miles southwest of Chicago. Chi-cago. She wanted to catch a Grand Trunk train at the Halsted and Forty-ninth street station and for that reason took possession of the car. The conductor, assisted by several men passengers, overpowered her after she had run ths car six blocks and took her to the Halsted street police station. She convinced the police that she was not Insane In-sane and was released. |
