The etock max- ! ket opened unchanged under alight pressure1, press-ure1, but rallied almost under the lead of St. Paul, which advanced pne from the lowest. . Consolidated Gaa rose 1, but changes otherwise were not significant.. The Irregular movement of St. Paul, which was the .feature of yesterday's market, continued this morning on about the aaroe scale. , The price fluctuated between be-tween K0 and 182, the top figure indicating indi-cating an overnight rise .of 14- In the general market strength and weakness alternated al-ternated also with the heaviness general on the drive against Brooklyn Transit and Reading. Around 11 o'clock the market mar-ket was showing firmness, with St. Paul at the best. Northwestern and Iowa Central Cen-tral preferred improved 1. and Delaware A Hudson 1. Tenn. Coal ran off 1. Brooklyn Transit 1, and Reading Pressed Steel Car and Corn Products preferred 2. Dealings gradually brought about a narrower awing until the market got Into something of a rut. Three or four stocks monopolized the dealings. Si. Paul retained re-tained its feverish characteristics, but rallied easily when profit-taking ceased. Reading retrieved its loss, but Brooklyn Transit remained' heavy, and there waa some pressure against the United Statea Steel stocks. The midday market was almost al-most lifeless and yielding. Baltimore A Ohio advanced a point, while Great Northern preferred declined 1 and Pneumatic Pneu-matic Service J. Bonds were steady at noon, n' Effective buying was withheld until Erie, Locomotive and the Hill stock had been lowered materially. Subsequently the general market gained alightly when Reading and St. Paul rose to 142 and 182 respectively. Interest was very slight and Great Northern preferred sagged 2 and Pressed Steel Car and Pacific Mail 1. More impression was made on prices in the decline oi the last hour than during the earlier spasmodic selling. The entire absence of support to some of the important im-portant stocks and general dissatisfaction dissatisfac-tion with the character of .ne day's spec-ulation spec-ulation induced selling for both accounts. Brooklyn Transit dropped 3 points, Reading Read-ing lost over a point, and the day's rise in St. Paul waa more thari wiped oit. Great Northern preferred ran off 8, Northern Pacific 2. and Union Pacific, Canadian Pacific. Missouri Pacific. Northwestern. Kansas & Texas preferred. L. A N.. V. S.
