Show ITTiX IXPROSY CURE. : If it be true that a specific has been discovered against leprosy, it is another triumph of medical science that in significance equals or exceeds any of the wonders of the past. It could only be exceeded . by a real consumption cure. Leprosy has been one of the terrors of the earth for thousands of years. It, too, has been a form of slow death that has been a horror from the first symptom until, after years of (.anguish, it has closed in death. When the first spot has appeared the victim has ' known that it was equivalent to a sentence of death, that his death-watch was set, and there was no escape; es-cape; that worse, too, he would not be given a swift release, but would live on and on, until all who saw him would recoil in horror. And it has remained while centuries have ebbed and flowed; hope died in its presence long before Cyrus . captured Babylon or Cambyses swept through Egypt. If it proves'true that science, has at last " throttled it, would not the same remedies - arrest cancer in its course? Both are a disintegration' disintegra-tion' of the tissues, perhaps each has its germ and may not what is an antidote for the one likewise j throttle the other? May be the physicians will laugh at this and say that when a man does not know what he is talking about he had better keep still. If they do, that will be right; but the fact will remain that a vast amount of their own medical knowledge had its . origin in experiments and why not make more experiments? exper-iments? . ' But returning to the leprosy cure; this would vbe a good chance for young physicians to go to New Orleans and master the details and then go to China to practice, for China is permeated with the disease and the physician who could master it would be .held as a miracle-worker. |
