Show the people, not of the light trust If any one desires de-sires to be placed1 in thelatter list, let him but rote for'the ordinance offered by the Utah'Light aud Railway company.' HE WILL THUS SEAL HIS OWN POLITICAL DOOM. ; This is no time for temporizing or trifling with the people.. The people are aroused and they will hare none of it. THERE IS NOT ONE DEMAND OF THE UTAH LIGHT AND RAILWAY COMPANY COM-PANY THAT IS IN THE INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE, AND THE ORDINANCE SHOULD BE REJECTED IN ITS ENTIRETY. Again, the NewhouBe franchise should be granted, grant-ed, as it affords IMMEDIATE RELIEF FROM THE ONEROUS BURDENS IMPOSED UPON THE PEOPLE BY THE LIGHT TRUST. .Mr. Newhouse proposes a flat reduction of one-third from present rates. Grant him a franchise, and the rates will never be higher. It is the only way to bring the light trust to terms. No one doubts the ability of Mr. Newhouse to carry out his promises. HIS RATES ARE STATED IN PLAIN FIGURES, AND THERE IS NO CHANCE FOR EVASION OR SUBTERFUGE. Municipal ownership may oome In time, but the Newhouse ordinance will not stand in its way. The rates of the Utah Light and Railway company are not justified by conditions, and to leave that corpo-ration corpo-ration alone in the field will delay rather than advance ad-vance municipal ownership. LET THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY. COUNCIL COUN-CIL BE CAREFUL OF THEIR ACTIONS. THE EYES OF THE PEOPLE ARE UPON THEM. The People Hive Spoken. The protest of citizens against granting the franchise jextension asked for by the Utah Light and Railway company, as voiced in last night's mass meeting, should be carefully considered by members mem-bers of the City' Council. This meeting was called xby a representative body of citizens, the Salt Lake Keal Estate association, and the untrammeled voice of the people was expressed. It was attended by representative and influential citizens. IT IS NOT WELL FOR THE CITY COUNCIL TO GO CON-TRARY CON-TRARY TO THE SENTIMENTS OF SUCH A ' I GATHERING. Some members of the City Council have charged that the newspapers have not correctly represented the sentiments of the people on the proposed franchise fran-chise grab. CAN ANY ONE DOUBT IT AFTER LAST NIGHT'S MEETING? If it were possible to - secure a hall large enough, ten times as many people peo-ple as turned out last night could be gotten together togeth-er to protest against this outrage against their rights. - 1 THE FRANCHISE GRAB MUST BE BLOCKED, AND WOE BETIDE ANY COUNCILMAN COUNCIL-MAN WHO STANDS FOR SUCH BARTERING AWAY OF PUBLIC UTILITIES. ' Not one word, from the standpoint of the people, peo-ple, can be presented in favor of this preposterous grant. The Councilmen are the representatives of - - - |
