Show CHF1EL HAY GO THROUGH NEEDLE'S EVE; ACCORDING TO JOHN D.'S MINISTER CHICAGO. Feb. 26. Persons wbo Iry to copy the life of Christ exactly make a fatal mistake, according to the Rev. R. P. Johnston, pastor tot the Fifth Avenue Baptist church of New Tork city.. Dr. Johnston, whose church numbers among its members John D. Rockefel- ler, delivered the first of a series of sermons yesterday at Mandel hall, Chl-; cago university. "If all Christians tried to copy' Christ's life exactly, all science, com-, merce, agriculture and other business! would cease," he said, "and an unprecedented unpre-cedented era of disintegration would ensue. It would be the greatest possiJ-ble possiJ-ble calamity that could happen. Instead In-stead of copying Christ's life to the letter, live in the spirit of it "Not many years ago- a mart would be called a heretic who said a person was a Christian and did not' belong to any church. : Now it is not a question of creed or institution but of living. The man with a good life and a baa creed Is better than a man with a good creed and a bad life." |
