Show WASHINGTON" FORESAW TRUST. '"The very Idea ot power and She right of the people to establish ' government presupposes pre-supposes the duly of every individual to obey the established government. All obstructions ob-structions to the execution of the laws, all combinations and associations, tinder whatever plausible character, with the real design to direct, control or counteract or awe the regular deliberation and action of constitutional authorities, are destructive destruc-tive of this fundamental principle and of fatal tendency. However, combinations combi-nations or associations of the above description, de-scription, may now and then answer popular pop-ular ends, they are likely in the course of time to become potent engines by which cunning, ambit'ous and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of tho people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterward the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion." From Washington's farewell address. |
