Show PJORMIUS a mmn Idiho Man Talks GIov-ingly GIov-ingly of Conditions in Gem State. If. all Idahoans were like Orlean P. Rlordan .of Caldwell. Ida., the Gem State would soon double her population. popula-tion. Six weeks ago Mr., Itiordan, who became, City Clerk of the thriving little lit-tle town on the Boise when he was only 22 years of age, went back to his native na-tive home of Sioux City, la., a bachelor. bache-lor. Testerday he registered at the Cullen and was assigned.- the bridal chamber. Nor is that all this enterprising enter-prising young real estate dealer has done to add to the population ' and wealth of his adopted State. Here is the way he tells it: "Before leaving Caldwell I wrote letters let-ters back home to all my friends telling tell-ing them I was coming back to northwestern north-western Iowa and had something to tell that would be worth listening to. I did not lecture, but I can talk, and I talked so convincingly that between the last of September and the last of November Novem-ber no less than thirty heads of families in the neighborhood of my old home are going to visit Caldwell with a view of purchasing and becoming homesteaders homestead-ers there. "If I have told them the truth, some of them will stop with us. And it was not necessary to misrepresent, since Caldwell is in the heart of tire Boise-Payette Boise-Payette irrigation project of the Government. Gov-ernment. . The reservoir five miles above Caldwell will cover 6700 acres and the project will reclaim 400.000 acres of land on which anything that grows can be raised. The project will require the expenditure of 11,000,000 and will be finished fin-ished in from three to five years. Very little land now remains for homesteaders homestead-ers to take up. but there are plenty of relinquishments to be had at from $50 to $250 each. -- "Caldwell, which Is the county seat of Canyon county, is a town of 2300 people peo-ple and will have a new courthouse this summer to cost $65,000. Some idea of the Increase in values of real estate may be gathered from that fact that lots In a block which sold last year for $50 are now selling for $100 each." Mr. and Mrs. Rlordan start for their "home this afternoon. |
