Sympathetic fits Is a nervous malady that has attacked six members of a family of twelve children who live near here. One of the boys In the family, which is that of Ter- rence Clark of East Ooldenham, is the cause of this strange condition. He is nowln the hospital here. " Realising, that the boy was afraid of a kicking mule that was sta- bled near the farmhouse, a driver named Lynch placed him last Christmas night in the stall with the mule and then locked the stable & door, leaving him in the dark. The lad's cries attracted attention and he was rescued in a state of collapse, his mind being affected. Lynch was arrested and the boy was put under a severe cross- examination for two hours, during which time he was obliged to re- ffl heirse the story of his fright. At the close he went into convulsions, which have daily continued. Five other members of the family, all ffi younger than the boy, are now experiencing the same affliction. When one goes into convulsions another fallows, and at times there are six in fits. It requires a strong man to hold one of the girls in these- pa- roxysms. The authorities were appealed to yesterday, and by advice of a physician those afflicted wlth.the fits were separated for a week or two In the hope that after their nerves have become quieted they may yield to medical treatment. Physicians say they fear that if the malady Is not checked the entire family will be In a similar state. ) " |
