Show FRANCIS WILL SUE President World's Fair Is Wroth Orcr Committee Report. President David R. Francis of the Louisiana Lou-isiana Purchase exposition informed Gov. Cutler yesterday that he intends to commence com-mence suit against the members of the legislative sub-committee, should he ascertain as-certain that the report they made is not privileged matter. In his telegram yes- terday. President Francis declares that the committee did not ask to see him. He asserts that he never offered the "cold shoulder" to Representatives Stookey, Joseph Jo-seph and Gundry. The telegram is as follows: "Hon. J. C. Cutler, Governor of Utah, and Chairman Utah Commission: "No reply to my message of March 21. Stookey la quoted here as defending his failure to call on me, by saying he accidentally acci-dentally met me in Third National bank, t'pon Inquiry I learn today there were several gentlemen in his (President Hut-tig's) Hut-tig's) office, from whom 1 asked him to excuse himself a moment. 1 had short talk with Huttlg and left. "He told me today they were members of the legislative committee, but that he did not introduce me. as they had called upon him solely to investigate bank account ac-count of ltah commission. My recollection recollec-tion was that I was introduced to several men, but did not hear their names, and their identity was not known to me. I remember that one of the party called me by name and shook hands before I recognized recog-nized htm. He voluntarily told me his name was Page. "I then recalled him as discharged employee em-ployee of award ribbons concessionaire. He has been denied admission to my office of-fice for two months, and I shall have him prosecuted If there is any law to reach him, as 1 have finally established proof In one Instance of bis having sold award ribbons to purchasers not entitled thereto. I object to sub-committee's report being be-ing on records of your Iegislature. and request that you demand for me the expunging ex-punging of same, as it contains ciiaiges and int-inuations against myself and other exposition officials which are wholly baseless, absolutely false and libelous. "If the report Is not a privileged, communication com-munication I shall take steps to punish its author. Have instructed my attorney here to submit entire matter to attorney there. DAVID R. FRANCIS." To this Gov. Cutler replied as follows: "President David R. Frauds. St. Louis: Your telegram of 21st and of today received, re-ceived, legislature adjourned March 14. Do you wish today's telegram published?'' In answer to Gov. Ctitli-r's telegram, he received the following message: "Gov. John C. Cutler. Salt like Cltv. Utah: Thanks for message. No objection to publishing today's telegram. I saw committee's report in Salt Lake Herald of 12th. Has It printed mv replies? "DAVID R. FRANCIS." |
