Just before midnight Brown, who was on his way home, was confronted by three men on Fifth South street, between Second Sec-ond and Third West streets. Two of the men were In the shade under the trees, while the third stood on guard in the street. .As Brown approached the two made & rush for him, but they met a big levolver which he had drawn. "Throw up your hands," cried Brown, "I'm an officer." Two of the men obeyed. The third, who was farthest away, took a long chance and got away. ' As Brown approached, ap-proached, the two intended hold-ups whom he had held up, one of them dodged in front of a number of women who were approaching,' and escaped before be-fore Brown could get a line on him and open tire without risking the killing of the women. The third man was taken to the police station at once, where he was searched and locked up. In his possession . was found two knives with wicked looking blades, but no revolver. The prisoner i gave his name as Jerry Kelsey. and said that he came from the East. He refused to give any further information concerning concern-ing himself. As Kelsey was locked up he said with a sneer: "You can't stick me; the others were the men you wanted." Patrolman Brown differs from this opinion, and says that he thinks Kelsey has already been "stuck." , , |
