Show STOCK MARKET OPENS HIGHER Much Activity on Wall Street, With a Few Conspicuous Cains. NEW YORK, Nov. 18. The stock market mar-ket opened active and higher with conspicuous con-spicuous gains in some of the Southern railroads and steel Industrials. Sloss-Sbeffleld Sloss-Sbeffleld Steel rose 2H. Tennessee Coal and Atlantic Coast Line and Louisville & Nashville a point. Federal Mining preferred pre-ferred advanced 2 and Denver & Rio Grande and Knickerbocker Ice a point. A check to the advance was administered adminis-tered by the weakness of Reading, which i fell from 141 to 130. Subsequently the Metropolitan stocks became heavy and their decline to 1U below yesterday's closing clos-ing pulled the whole market back. Tennessee Ten-nessee Coal and Sloss-Sheffleld Steel reacted re-acted 1 to l'i and a few of the standard railroad stocks sold below yesterday's finals. Efforts by the room traders to recover re-cover stocks sold and some manifestation of strength by important specialties rallied ral-lied the list vigorously and the best prices of the hour were prevalent at 11 o'clock. American Snuff jumped 25 points on two transactions. Prices of special stocks continued to advance until the publication publica-tion of the bank tstafement. when a sagging sag-ging tendency developed which carried prominent stocks to the neighborhood of last night's level. Among the striking advances ad-vances in specialties were Federal Mining 10. the preferred 6, Sloss-Sheffleld Steel 5i. Brooklyn Transit 3. New York Airbrake Air-brake 3. International Power, International Interna-tional Pump, North American, United States Rubber second preferred. National Biscuit, Long . Texas Pacific Land Trust and Sugar lost 1, Hocking Valley 1. Central Cen-tral railroad of New Jersey ly and Chi- ' cago Union Traction preferred 2'.
