By careful work and painstaking ef fort he was rapidly promoted, consistently saved a certain portion of his earnings, in; later years became an owner and died enormously wealthy. ; 1 ' Sir George Williams had time for spiritual things despite his vast business interests. As a hard-working clerk he never missed religious KTyices. He took an interest in the moral welfare of his companions, uud years ago organized a prayer meeting society among the clerks of the store in which he was employed. This humble beginning was the origin of the Y. M. C. A. The young men rented x Inll, later built their own home and the movement-spread over England and eventually eventual-ly to America. ' - ' . Today the Y. M. C. A. boasts of 17,000 branches. It owns build-iiigs build-iiigs valued at $33,000,000 located in every civilized nation of the globe. In America it owns property worth $26,000,000 nnd disburses $3,000,000 annually. Besides this financial success, there is no doubt of the spiritual good the association has done and is doing. Si George Williams doubtless little suspected the magnitude to which his little London prayer meeting circle would grow, fome have eailetl the Y. M. C. A. an accident. However this may be, Williams deserves the credit for the great institution and it should tak; some steps to honor his memory. DEATH OF SIR GEORGE: WILLIAMS. With fitting ceremony, as befitted a man of his rank, Sir George I Williams was buried at London the first of the week. The death of this noble man should have been of the most absorbing interest to J' thousands all over the world, and yet, so perfectly had his work been done an so wonderful the organization he wrought, that the great institution which he founded will move on as if he had never lived. Bir George Williams was the founder of the Young Men's Christian association and the prime mover in the efforts that have made it the most powerful organization of its kind in the world. There is a great lesson to be learned in the study of the life of S:r George Williams.
