Show V-DAY PROGRAM HONORS VETERANS Highlighting the V-E day program pro-gram held at the Bingham portal of the Bingham-Copperfield tunnel tun-nel Thursday, May 8 was the unveiling and dedication of two bionze memorial plaques honoring honor-ing veterans who served in World War II by Capt. J. P. Thew, head of naval science at the University Univer-sity of Utah. Upon one plaque is an inscription honoring the 328,000 Americans who lost their lives during World War II, While the other much larger plaque listed names of 761 men and women wo-men of Bingham district who served in the armed forces during dur-ing the war- The program was sponsored by Victory Flag Society and directed direct-ed by Carl Zahos, chairman and founder of the society, who introduced in-troduced several civic leaders I and military personnel present. j Short talks were also given by j Mayor Dale Johnston and Lt. I (jg.) James Sullenger. Floral wreaths, donated by the Bingham Bing-ham junior chamber of commerce. com-merce. Bingham District Athletic Association and Veteran's "75" , club were placed at the foot of the plaques by Miss Joyce Mill- j er, Galena days queen, Herbert : Babcock and John Bolic respec- i tively. The plaques will be placed on ! a large monument, which will be I located on the high school ground , at Copperton. The monument, 12 feet high and 9 feet square, made . of granite, will be dedicated or V-J day, September 2, and con-J con-J struction will begin as soon as possible. |
