feeling in favor of sports sports' S SINCE clothes is becoming apparent in almost almost almost al- al most everything the woman who likes softer fussier things will take advantage advantage advantage ad ad- vantage of the scope offered her in the choice of clothes to wear at ai tea time While the sports influence does not hot mean that women's clothes will become mannish in any degree because women of discrimination will wiIl always realize the appeal appeal appeal ap ap- peal of soft feminine apparel it may may mean that more restriction will be placed on the use of elaborate trimming and andon on the accessories to be worn with certain frocks But at tea time smart women appear in soft crepes and satins in plumage and drooping hats wearing with them the jewels jewels' and dainty trinkets dear to the feminine heart Cleverly managed folds of material dashingly draped and paneled skirts slit sleeves or voluminous ones which would not lend themselves to sports activities activities- all aU of these are charming at tea time In the revolution of the fashion cycle it is interesting to note the reappearance of little fads General styles and the bigger bigger bigger big big- ger things such as silhouettes lengths and sleeve treatments sometimes take a I good amount of time to swing back back around around the circle but little fads are apt to repeat themselves more often For a while they may not be seen or or thought of at all then presto There they are aze again Jewels match the costume to a marked degree The fad for wearing many bracelets bracelets brace brace- lets continues the bracelets of bone or carved ivory in white and colors A stunning stunning stun stun- ning afternoon costume in dull tomato chiffon was seen recently the rich tone of of the tomato set off by bone bracelets in dull red green orange and deep purple An Uneven Line Secret Note the use of sable tails on the tan frock worn by the standing figure fig fig- ure uze above This use of fur trimming ona ona on ona a gown of more or less fragile material may serve to illustrate the reappearance of a small note in the way of trimming About six years ago one of m my patrons attracted attracted at at- much comment at Palm Beach in a charming little frock I had created for her of sheer white batiste trimmed in ermine tails This crepe frock in the tan which willbe will willbe be so smart for spring is ideal for the afternoon tea scene of which it finds itself a part True to the w way y of skirts for spring an uneven line about the bottom is easily achieved by catching the skirt up up here and there and one of these folds isI is is' I held eld up by shirring at the side The slit at the back is straight and deeper than the front one white while a gold cord and tassels tassels tas tas- tas- tas sels complete the neckline The broad- broad brimmed brown satin hat is made smarter still by its ostrich quills posed at one side The long sleeves shirred in about r the cuff and extending out in a point below the elbow strike a note not of difference In fact the sleeves leeves in the four frocks shown may serve well to illustrate the different ways of sleeves But we may say that preference favors the big full sleeves seen on on the navy cashmere frock worn by the seated figure at the left And on a spring afternoon there is an anair anair anair air of freshness and vivacity about a frock of navy blue whatever the medium that thatis is hardly equalled by a dress of another hue Tl This is frock is bound all about with the narrowest piping of sell material and finds a note of difference in the which swings off one side The feature of the dress and that which gives it an undisputed note of difference difference dif dif dif- ference appears in the Chinese ornaments on the long heavy silk tassels which drop from the waistline The rose of the ornaments ornaments ornaments orna orna- ments stands out brightly against the background of navy tassel while the Chinese temple design design- in raised gilt adds its picturesque touch The large hat is slightly elongated at atthe atthe atthe the sides and droops a bit It is of black taffeta lined with a drawn- drawn work band of rose linen encircles the crown and ties at the side The hostess pours tea and wears for Newspaper I Service 1022 1922 c 1 f I the occasion a charming gown of white c chiffon by the figure at the far side of the table Loops of the green crepe drop from strips of lace which extend from either shoulder along the upper arm Her hat shows the same general outline as theother theother the theother other one being slightly wider at the sides except that it turns up ever so o little at the front to soft soften n the line and avoid hiding the eyes of the wearer Devotees of the large hat almost like almost like the well- well known Merry Widow shape will be glad to know that many of the newer spring shapes are of this variety For that matter however shapes vary widely and hats are to be found for the woman whose features are sharp as well as for the more rounded contour Ribbon is ver very very sm smart rt often appearing in a sim si sipIe siro pie plc band tied was simply a wide piece of the ribbon sewed about th the crown and caught into it at intervals with little bone rings J JIn In the tea hat there is something v very appealing in soft ostrich feathers which which droop about the face Charming models of this inspiration are to be seen usually in a fitting close-fitting chapeau the feather often of an indefinable shade as a gree green green- blue or
