J J. white sheriff of ot Boxelder county county county coun coun- ty had requested that two men be besent besent besent sent to Brigham City at once to do special work there during the Peach day carnival on September 14 H. Having Havinga a family of ot seven to support and be beIng being being be- be ing out of ot employment at this time I consented to go go and made to leave at once in company with witha a man by the name of ot J J. J G G. Smith We Ve left here at 9 p p. p m m. having missed the train leaving at C 30 p p. p m m. and arrived d dIn in Brigham City at ati i 1230 30 a a. a am m m. September September Sep Sep- 13 On the thirteenth we worked from 6 a a. m m. until 12 o'clock eighteen hours On the fourteenth we worked eighteen hours and on the fifteenth we put in eight hours time waiting for tor Sheriff Lillywhite who had requested us to make out our bill in informing informing in- in in-I in forming us he would return in an hourAt hour At the time designated by him we re reI returned returned re- re I turned and Informed by his deputy dep- dep uty J J. R R. Olsen that the sheriff I dep-I had hadnot hadnot hadnot not returned and that he would not be back until evening as he had gone I home to tal take e a nap Upon leaving we i Instructed Mr Olsen to send our checks to the sheriffs sheriff's office at Salt Lake I They a amounted to 33 3 31 each as fol follows follows fol- fol fo lows Railroad f W d fare Salt Chi Lake e fOl to i Brigham and return 3 56 each 3 each I for or thre nights lodging and 6 61 75 each for tor board amounting to 1331 31 which we paid out for tor expenses The tort forty four hours time we put in as four days at 5 a day amounting to 20 each for labor as yet we have not re received received received re- re our pay I have written sheriff sher sher- iff Ut Lillywhite four or five letters In regards to the bills He did take time timeto to acknowledge one of my letters on I October 19 in which he stated a as follows I I beg to acknowledge the receipt of ot your our letter of ot the and sorry I to say that the county commissioners I turned your claim down twice and refuse re refuse refuse re- re I fuse to pay the same and I herewith a blank claim an ans and suggest that I you make a claim out for fot two days and a half halt which you actually worked and I will see Iee if It the commissioners will honor the same flame On October 20 I met Mr Smith and we went to the sheriffs sheriff's office where I filled out the claim we blank as re requested requested re- re I quested but as yet jet et we have not re receIved received re- re our pay and nd I wrote Sh Sheriff Lillywhite about two weeks ago to the effect that I had w waited this length I of time for a settlement and that I would con consider lder nothing less than the 1 original amount of oZ the bill I 1 have been |
