Show PLAYGROUND NEWS B J. Santistevan, Area Recreational Director The Copperton Yanks defeated defeat-ed the strong Bingham Cubs 7-6 j Tuesday. John Dee Mitchell and Bob Sanchez staged a real pitchers pitch-ers battle. Dean Lipsey is the mainstay catcher of the Bingham Cubs. Junior Tyson, Ned Miller and Milan Nicksich are playing great ball for the Cubs. Howard Grant, Merlin Cole-I Cole-I man and Richard Anderson are i hitting the ball to all corners of i the lot for the Copperton Yanks Junior Streator, who plays for j the Copperton Yanks, returned from a fishing trip. Gary La-Comb, La-Comb, also of the same team had a fine fishing trip to Yellowstone. Elmo Brady, county recn?a-! recn?a-! tional director, was on our playground play-ground Monday. Gilbert Pando is one Frogtown boy who hasn't missed a day at the playground this year. He doesn't play all the time but he gets a thrill of watching the games as well. Junior Herrera and Ernest Saldivar are playing good steady ball for the Can-Fork Can-Fork Commandos. Clifford Nielsen, Tommy Lovat and Pete Nicksich are three members of the Popeye team I who are on the playground daily and really thrill at playing. All these boys are promising ball players. Van Sutherland, David and Ed Jacobsen and Phil Downs are keeping the Copperton Cadets in the running. Grant PulJan, John Landen-berger, Landen-berger, Jack Peterson and Ronnie Ron-nie Muhar are keeping the Copperton Cop-perton Cubs in the race. Edwin Muhar, Dick Houghton and Dick Watson are also hitting the ball hard for the same team. Many Bingham fans attended j our first Legion game on our new field Tuesday. You can sit in your car and watch the game. We intend to play a few of our games on this field this half-Dick half-Dick Peterson who was recently-discharged recently-discharged from the navy play-I play-I ed left field for one of the senior teams Monday. He made a great ! running catch of Rudy Pino's I fly ball. Shades of his old time ! fielding form when Dick was one I of our greatest kid fly-chasers. Bingham American Legion club defeated the Rotary club, representing Salt Lake Legion post No. 2, 22-7 for their eighth win of the season. This was the first game on the new field ; that was constructed by the Jordan school district. The field IfjCbt water and is quite rocky 1 ; but it is hoped that something will be done to get it in better shape. The Legion baseball players have worked on it for three evenings to make it playable play-able on one end. There will be a Legion baseball game Friday (today) at 5:30 p-m.. Sugar-house Sugar-house post at Bingham. Bingham Hospital and the Utah Copper hospital teams will play in the County Softball tour- nament next Monday at Magna. The tournament will begin at 9 J o'clock Monday and last all day. Sixteen teams are entered. The Bingham hospital has drawn ; Holladay for their first game and j Utah Copper hospital the Magna Wildcats. |
