Show I. I Editorials by C. C C. C Goodwin I IA A Most Deserving Des Candidate Concerning the coming city election a great many questions which were pertinent two years ago which were pertinent before before before be be- fore the primaries were held a few days since have lost their force There are no doubts about the private or public character character charac charac- ter of the men from whom the electors are to select two commissioners commis commis- and an auditor Neither ne need d the form of government be discussed That is established And if any change is 18 ever made it will will be the work not of the city but of the legislature and governor The only question Is which of the candidates candidates in the field I gives the best promise of alertness and efficiency 1 in n office 1 On Wednesday we gave a brief synopsis of the work perfo performed performed per per- formed fo ed for the city by Commissioner Keyser during the past two years That work reveals some important facts The first one Is that it was essentially sanitary work Some of us remember here and when each vividly when sanitation was little heeded autumn revealed a long row of childrens children's graves in the cemetery 1 I children who died of diseases that arc are born of filth and dirt Since then the city has multiplied fivefold in inhabitants the inhabitants the therow row of little fresh graves has has' shrunken to a minimum The next fact established is that the intelligent work of Mr lr Keyser has doubled for the children of the city their playgrounds and swimming facilities The next fact is th that t the work performed has added to the material value of the whole city for the work supplies a distinct added inducement for strangers who come here liere to invest in cit city property The next fact is that the work performed is permanent and reveals not only a clear conception of the city's needs but a shrewd forecast of what the growing city will need in the future Finally the work shows a conscientious car careful ful economy for the whole cost does not amount to as much as would the car carfare carfare carfare fare of the people were they all to come in to spend a day at the annual fair And our thought is is' that an untried young man who could do what Mr Keyser eyser has done and is doing for the city should have the generous recognition of the people that it would be base ingratitude on the part of the pe people not to give him ir such recognition and allow him to continue his work Hence we recommend recommend rec rec- voters not only to vote for Mr Ir Keyser but to urge their their- neighbors to do the same |
