Show Scouting Reports ts The Great Salt Lake Council of Boy Scouts largest in Region 12 held its annual meeting Friday night at the state fairgrounds It was a notable meeting in a number of respects First it marked the retirement after 26 years as administrative head of the council of D. D E. E Hammond Second it marked the election of a new president of the council Verner 0 O. Hewlett who succeeded Eugene D. D Amott Third it featured new records of scouting membership membership membership mem mem- advancement and service in the council The organization and extension committee committee committee com com- announced that membership in inthe inthe inthe the council cubs council cubs scouts explorers and adult was was at the highest level in history That represents an 18 per cent increase over last year Particularly notable was the doubling of membership in Cub Scout packs in the thelast thelast thelast last two years Progress in scouting advancement was emphasized by the increase in the number of merit badge awards from two years ago to this past year Also significant was the fact that the number of Eagle Scout ranks achieved during the past year was more than double the total two years previously Outstanding community s service e r I v i ice c e project of the year ear was the collection and shipping of pounds of good usable clothing for relief of destitute families in war ravaged countries There was progress in camping leadership training and many hi-adventure hi trips trips- for scouts and explorers An excellent program of training boys in handling and firing rifles at the range at Tracy Wigwam camp saw boys qualify for National Rifle Association ratings and many more gain valuable experience in handling w weapons apons A total of rounds of or ammunition were fired on th the range in the carefully supervised program of gun safety and marksmanship One of the highlights of the annual meeting always alway is the awarding of coveted Silver Beavers This year they went to Glenn W W. George H. H Marchant James W W. Quinn Northrup E E. E Garfield William Villiam F F. F Ludwig D D.
