Show Have You Met et Dime Dimey y c t an and ec The National Safety council has published published published pub pub- a clever little booklet for use in schools in the teaching of traffic traffic safety And it could easily be used to teach adults as well as children Entitled The Highway Five it makes an intriguing story about the five different types of highway signs And it gives the five signs clever names based on their shape as you can well imagine is the circle sign which warns of well of-well well do you know the answer answer answer-a a a railroad crossing just a head Cross bucky is the crossing sign itself placed right at the tracks Dimey is the diamond shaped sign which warns the driver of such traffic hazards as curves hills slippery roads dips etc of course is the octagonal sign which says only one thing STOP The last member of the family is Rocky Recky which is the rectangular sign telling you what the traffic laws and regulations are such things as speed limits for instance The booklet explains that Octy Dimey and are yellow while Cross- Cross bucky and Recky are white white that that is except in Cal California ornia which insists on being different by having Octy red and white That incidentally is a bit bitof bitof bitof of traffic confusion which California might well clear up This pertly illustrated booklet with its dramatization of the signs should help not only children but their motoring motoring motor motor- ing mothers and fathers tb to recognize and obey the highway signs A little jingle in the booklet might help you remember the signs Here it is Be sure to stop says While Dimey says Take e care Old Recky tells you how and why Be mighty glad they're there |
