Show A Cultural Asset for Utah A ALL A LL the officers of the Utah State Symphony Orchestra association who have served so ably during the last two years were reelected at the biennial election meeting of the associations association's associations association's ti tion's ns n's board of directors The officers are Fred E E. E Smith president Dr Adam S. S Bennion Bennion Bennion Ben- Ben nion and Mrs John M M. Wallace first and second second sec see ond and vice presidents Oscar R. R Heppley treasurer and Gail Martin manager These officers and those many other pub pub- spirited lic-spirited citizens who as members of the association board of directors as volunteer workers and as contributors have aided in the establishment and development of the Utah state symphony have earned the sincere thanks of the people of Salt Lake City and Utah They have given Utah a fine musical organization organization organization or or- which is an asset and an honor to this state It is just two years since the orchestra and the association were organized yet already this s musical group is firmly established as a U Utah ah cultural asset During the two years of its existence the symphony has played to a total of more than persons During Y r. r the past season subscriptions to the Kingsbury Kingsbury Kingsbury Kings- Kings bury hall concerts increased 20 per cent attendance attendance attendance at at- at tour concerts has trebled and sponsorship sponsorship sponsorship spon spon- increased per cent The state symphony is definitely a community community community com com- project Those who serve on its board of directors receive no compensation for their work Seventy per cent of the 42 1941 budget was paid to the musicians of the orchestra Not one cent was paid from the orchestra associations association's associations association's associations association's as as- treasury for management promotion promotion promotion promo promo- tion or administration Despite all this unpaid work and effort and the cooperation of government agencies the symphony cannot operate without public financial support This support is obtained by means of subscriptions t which entitle the sponsor to hear the five regular concerts given each season The subscriptions range in price from to 11 depending upon the seat chosen for the concert season The subscription campaign for the 43 1942 season is now on So far results have been good but more support from the public is needed to insure that the orchestra will be beable beable beable able to carry carryon on next year The orchestra and the spirited public-spirited men and women who have so unselfishly given their time and effort to the of the state symphony deserve les your support i |
