J Warner national commander of the American Legion Legion Legion Le Le- Le- Le gion Friday warned that U. U S. S efforts might otherwise be futile futile futile fu tile Warner recently returned from froma a mission of investigation in Great Britain stated in a report to the legion that aid to the United Kingdom was an urgent sity We should face the realities he said not the dreams and hopes We are furnishing the food supplies and munitions and we should see to it that they reach England Otherwise our efforts will be futile I The legion leader declared that his mission found no doubt among the British that they could win air supremacy and beat back an invasion But he added they I had expressed hope that America I would bolster their strength at sea At no time Warner said did we hear anybody express implicit confidence in England's ability to protect the shipping necessary to secure all the supplies from outside outside outside out out- side which are so badly needed The morale of the English people people people peo peo- would be improved very greatly and strengthened if they were convinced the United States is prepared to do all in its power to offset the great shipping loss and if they were convinced that the United States is prepared to dedicate its industrial production as England has toward this great effort and is prepared to pay the necessary price whatever that might be to deliver our production production production tion to them Warner who conferred with Prime Minister Winston Churchill and King George VI during his visit stated the belief that Britain would cede certain insular possessions possessions possessions pos pos- sessions in the western hemisphere hemisphere hemi hemi- sphere to this country in return for aid |
