Horse Racing for Utah 7 SOME COME months months ago we commented in an edl- edl LI tonal on a reported effort to revive horse hors racing in Utah In the editorial we noted the arguments put forward In favor of the idea and cited Utah's previous unsatisfactory experience experience ex ex- with horse racing and its essential adjunct of ot legalized gambling We expressed the Oie opinion that we should not have to learn the lesson twice that horse racing is more I harmful than good Our views have not hot changed since then Therefore we oppose the measure recently Introduced Introduced In In- in the house which would legalize horse race gambling in Utah We hope and trust that this bill house bill house bill No will will not even get beyond committee consideration In the legislature It Is significant that while an attempt Is being made to legalize horse race gambling In Utah Utahan n attempt is being made In Arizona to abolish part par gambling at horse or dog races aces In that state Whether the Arizona legislature legis legis- lature will throw out horse race gambling we dont don't know but It is at least worth noting that there Is strenuous opposition to this form k I of 01 legalized gambling in Arizona by business school and religious groups They have found lound on experience Just as Utah found on experience 13 years ago that horse race gambling Is gad bad ad for the people and for lor business and that Is a great deal better off oU without this form of ot entertainment
