O Larsen's letter of November November November No No- vember 30 I wish to enlighten him in respect to his political He takes great pains to point out how we are so much better off now than in 1932 He tells us in his letter that people were starving and banks were closing everyone was out of work business business business busi busi- ness was failing etc all be because because because be- be cause of Hoover and his autocratic autocratic autocratic auto cratic group of rulers He infers In Infers infers in- in fers that we are in good condition condition condition condi condi- tion now as a nation He may be right In his belief that we now are enjoying ng better living conditions than we were at that time But was Hoover and his like business-like administration tion responsible for this unfortunate unfortunate unfortunate nate depression which engulfed not only the United States but also the rest of the world No It was an unfortunate state of affairs which could not be blamed upon any nation let alone any single man What about his belief that Roosevelt was and is the shepherd shepherd shepherd shep herd who led us out of bondage to this utopia Just this This Th l belief also is false It must be admitted that Roosevelt has helped in a way to better our conditions on the face of it But what plans has he for our condition in future times To Todo do the rash things he and his followers had in mind he was willing to spend and spend and spend until we are now more in debt than we have ever been As proof of this statement one needs but to observe the huge national debt which is well over 40 billion dollars Then recall that Henry has re recently recently recently re- re requested a raise of the debt limit to 65 billions a figure figure figure fig fig- ure which is almost The task of repaying this monstrous debt does docs not lie lieso lieso lieso so much upon us as it does upon our children and their childrens children's children Is this what Mr Roosevelt Roosevelt Roosevelt Roose Roose- velt had in mind when he proposed proposed proposed pro pro- posed the various phases of his gigantic spending program which has been of little use In Inthe Inthe inthe the long run toward bringing us any form of lasting prosperity His method has been simply what is commonly known as passing the buck On the basis of this Issue alone the third termite should have been defeated in this last elec elec- tion But whatever ones one's political political political cal beliefs may be and whatever his racial ties tics he should now join with other Americans Americans Americans Amer Amer- to correct the governmental tal mistakes and to make and keep our country safe for democracy racy John Henry Smith |
