L Tracy prominent banker was over Thursday It was the thirty-fifth thirty tive year that Mr Tracy was host to the young merchants on Thanksgiving day and it was the biggest banquet of the 35 The young salesmen sat down at 12 noon in the Hotel Utah with Governor Henry H. H Blood Mayor John M. M Wallace Russel L. L Tracy the host and his nephew Rufus Tracy Jr who as assisted assisted assisted as- as in arrangements the Very Rev Franklin L. W McGillis street circulator At 1245 p. p m. m the banquet went wenton on the air with a radio broadcast over station Dr Maw and Mr who once were newspaper salesmen like the young men at the banquet spoke during the broadcast as did Russel L. L Tracy and Alma Potter 16 6 one of the young guests The host told how he conceived the idea of the annual banquet Thirty-five Thirty years ago he observed a young newsboy his nose pressed to the glass of a window behind which was displayed a huge Thanksgiving gobbler The youngster wondered what turkey tasted like because Ive I've never eaten one and Russel L. L Tracy then and there resolved that every newsboy would have a chance to know every Thanks Thanks- giving I Thursday morning the young merchants met at the Tracy L Loan an anand and Trust frust company comp and marched to the Deseret gymnasium where they swam in the gym pool for two hours hours-as guests of H. H C. C Mor- Mor manager At 11 a. a m. m headed by their own drum and bugle corps they marched down Main street and serenaded of the newspapers newspapers newspapers news news- papers then went to the Hotel Utah and lots of turkey |
